FCC: Promoting Telehealth in Rural America

Proposed rule from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) seeking to ensure that rural providers get the support they need, while also guarding against fraud, waste, and abuse. The proposed final rule also seeks to mitigate the impact of the existing Rural Health Care (RHC) Program cap, and ensure that the program operates efficiently. The RHC Program, which includes the Healthcare Connect Fund, provides funding to eligible rural providers to improve and/or expand the telecommunications and broadband services necessary for the provision of healthcare. Funding for the RHC Program is currently capped at $400 million annually. Comments regarding the proposed rule must be submitted no later than February 2, 2018.
